CREATIVE WAYS TO FIND THE RIGHT PEOPLE

BACKGROUND
  • Armin Morrison is a rarity in New Zealand senior management. Prior to her appointment as General Manager of Signature Security, Armin spent eight years as the company’s Australasian HR Manager.

  • What follows is her take on the NZ recruitment industry and the challenges she faces in the as a ‘talent hunter’…and her work with Frog Recruitment.
  • “I continually get calls from recruitment companies after a quick fee to sell a warm body into one of our seats. These outfits, and I’m talking about the majority of the New Zealand industry are just not getting it - by ‘it’ I mean the newer, tighter, more sophisticated job market,” says Armin Morrison.

THE TALENT CHALLENGE

  • For Signature Security, an ever tightening New Zealand job market means the constant pressure for fresh, creative ways to find the right people.

  • “I have always been on the lookout for a recruitment company that’s not only creative but professional. The vast majority of recruitment companies are not - then there’s Frog Recruitment. Frog not only gets our business but is striving constantly to offer creative, add-value suggestions to help us win the talent battle,” says Armin.

  • “When I say ‘Frog gets it’, they also understand that they are a custodian of our brand. In my eight years of HR over Australasia this is a first for a recruitment company.”

  • A year ago Signature Securities had a staff turnover of around 30%. Since that time the company has worked hard to bring this figure down. It’s currently tipping 20% and looks set to improve on the industry’s 19% average very soon.
  • “The proof is that since we have begun working with Frog I can say that the calibre of our team has improved…I can’t say much more than that in way of praise,” adds Armin.

THE EXTRAS

  • Initially [2004] Frog Recruitment focused on producing superb ads with catchy copy with a punchy backgrounder on Signature Securities.

  • “Via these cleverly thought out advertisements we found a national channel manager. Since that time Frog has constantly challenged us to consider smarter ways to find our talent and stretch our ad dollar,” says Armin.

  • Frog Recruitment successfully introduced Signature Security to interactive voice telephone technology to help gauge call centre talent at the early interview stage. “This technology has given us a very efficient way to gauge call centre candidates,” says Armin.
  • Frog Recruitment is now working with Signature on investigating the use of targeted podcasts to target specific talent groups.
