What you might not be familiar with, is the life-changing career they can offer you as a community based, supportive care nurse. Forget shift work. In this role, you’re based at the local office or home, with a car/fuel card to take you where you are needed most, providing support and a wide range of information to people with cancer and their whānau through diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
You could be providing support and organising services by phone one day to making a home visit, facilitating a support group or running a workshop the next. You determine your schedule and how your week comes together, giving you plenty of flexibility for family and/or lifestyle pursuits.
While the rewards are significant, the environment isn’t for everyone. We’re looking for a compassionate, innovative problem solver with a can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile. You need to be super resilient, highly organised and a disciplined time manager. The ability to communicate and build relationships with a wide range of people, including other health providers and support services is also crucial.
