How to prepare for your new role in 2022

Remi Marcelin • April 18, 2022

2021 has been a wild ride, with lots of unpredictable ups and downs which have left a lot of people re-evaluating what they want to do with their career. We are experiencing ‘the great resignation’ and historically at the start of a new year, we see more people curious about what opportunities are in the market.

If you have decided to make the leap to a new opportunity in 2022, these are my top 3 tips to help you get ready.

Research the Organisation
I am sure you did this throughout the interview process, but say you interviewed before Christmas and you won’t start until the New Year, things may have changed within the business right? Growth and change can happen at any time, so it’s always good to know what is happening within the business currently, but also what is the history of the business? Just a basic understanding and overview will help you to feel prepared and understand the business you will be working for.

Look at the commute time and route
We currently live in a world where WFH is the new norm, however moving forward (pending lockdowns and restrictions) most businesses will require you to be in the office at some point. Always plan in advance your travel route; will you be driving? Where can you park? What train/bus line do I get on? Do I need to swap over? Careful planning will help you not to feel rushed or overwhelmed on your first day.

Rest
This is my BIGGEST tip for starting a new role; get plenty of rest beforehand! You want to ensure you are feeling alert and attentive on your first day! There is nothing worse than sitting through onboarding and inductions whilst yawning and seeming disinterested. Make sure you are energised and ready to go.
