people2people have partnered with an established and rapidly growing Australian power generation organisation is seeking a Legal Contracts Manager to join the business during an exciting phase of expansion. Working on complex, high-value projects across critical infrastructure, energy, industrial and engineering sectors, you will play a pivotal role in managing contractual risk, supporting commercial outcomes and helping project teams navigate contractual obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
About the role
This is an outstanding opportunity for a lawyer with 5+ years' PAE experience in commercial, corporate, projects or construction law who wants to move closer to the commercial side of the business and see the real-world impact of their advice. You will be the organisation's internal contract and commercial risk specialist, supporting both pre-award negotiations and post-award project delivery.
You will work closely with project leaders, executives, procurement, finance and to ensure contracts are negotiated effectively, risks are managed proactively and contractual entitlements are protected throughout project execution This is a highly visible role offering significant influence, variety and the opportunity to build best-practice contract management capability across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate and advise on customer, supplier, subcontractor and consultant agreements
- Identify legal, commercial and operational risks across major projects
- Provide contract risk assessments and recommendations to leadership teams
- Support contract negotiations and manage departures from standard terms
- Advise project teams on contractual obligations, compliance and risk mitigation
- Assist with extensions of time, variations, claims and contractual notices
- Ensure contractual rights and entitlements are preserved during project delivery
- Support dispute avoidance and work alongside external legal counsel on complex matters
- Develop contract templates, governance processes, registers and review frameworks
- Deliver practical contract guidance and training to internal stakeholders.
About you
You may currently be working in private practice or in-house and are looking for a role where your legal expertise can directly influence commercial outcomes.
To be successful, you will bring: Law degree and current or previous legal practising experience|||5+ years' PAE in commercial, corporate, construction, infrastructure or projects law|||Strong contract drafting, review and negotiation capability|||Experience advising on commercial risk and contract strategy|||Ability to interpret contractual obligations and provide practical business-focused advice|||Strong stakeholder management and communication skills|||A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and sound commercial judgement.
Experience within energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction, manufacturing, mining or industrial project environments will be highly regarded.
