Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced National HR Manager to lead the Employment and Industrial Relations strategy for the Group, while heading up the HR Business Partnering function. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief People Officer and sitting within the People & Culture leadership team.
You’ll take ownership of collective bargaining, union relationships, and high-level ER strategy while guiding the business on pragmatic, commercially focused people solutions. This is a role that combines deep technical ER/IR expertise with business acumen, as you’ll be a key advisor to senior leaders and a driver of HR projects that improve processes and create consistency across multiple brands and operating environments.

Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement the Group’s Employment and Industrial Relations strategy
  • Act as lead advocate in collective bargaining (multiple agreements and unions)
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with unions, employee representatives, and legal advisors
  • Provide leadership and oversight for complex ER case management, mediation, and ERA representation
  • Lead and coach a team of HR Business Partners and Advisors
  • Contribute to HR strategy and deliver projects to improve processes and systems
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and embed best-practice ER frameworks

To be successful, you will bring:
  • Proven experience in HR leadership with a strong ER/IR focus within a large, unionised workforce
  • Confidence as a lead advocate at the bargaining table and ability to navigate complex union relationships
  • Sound experience representing employers in mediation and ERA processes
  • Commercially pragmatic mindset with strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building capability at senior levels
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a collaborative leadership style
  • A tertiary qualification in HR, Law, or related discipline
