The Firm
An international legal group expanding into Australia is seeking a senior Western Australia-qualified solicitor to take on a Director / Salaried Partner (Non-Equity) role. This part-time role provides the opportunity to play a role in shaping a new practice, ensuring it operates with strong governance and regulatory integrity. This position is ideal for experienced practitioners seeking flexible, part-time work, including those looking to maintain professional engagement without full-time hours.

The Role
The Director will be a key driver in establishing robust compliance and governance frameworks for the Australian practice. The role is primarily remote, with occasional office attendance in Western Australia, starting at one day per week with the option to increase to two or three days.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Acting as a legal practitioner director / responsible solicitor for the Western Australian practice (subject to regulatory approval)
  • Leading compliance with the Legal Practice Board of WA, including trust accounting, practising certificate obligations, CPD, and professional conduct
  • Advising on operational, regulatory, and governance matters to support the Australian practice
  • Drafting, reviewing, and maintaining internal policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks
  • Developing and implementing governance structures to support growth and operational integrity
  • Collaborating with UK-based directors and teams, requiring flexibility to accommodate time zone differences
  • Providing guidance or oversight on personal injury matters where relevant
Regulatory Requirements
  • To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the regulatory requirements to act as a Director / Legal Practitioner Director of an Australian Incorporated Legal Practice, including:
  • Admitted to practice as a solicitor in Western Australia
  • Hold a current, unrestricted practising certificate in Western Australia
  • Meet the eligibility requirements to act as a Legal Practitioner Director under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (WA)
  • Able to satisfy the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia’s criteria for directors of incorporated legal practices
  • Strong understanding of professional conduct obligations, trust accounting requirements, and legal regulatory compliance
The Candidate
  • Extensive senior-level experience practising law in Western Australia Strong understanding of WA legal regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks
  • Experience contributing to or managing law firm governance, compliance, and regulatory responsibilities
  • Ability to work autonomously while providing high-level strategic legal oversight
  • Strong legal drafting, advisory skills, and sound professional judgement Ability to work effectively with international colleagues across different time zones
Desirable Requirements
  • Background or experience in personal injury law
  • Prior experience operating in a partner, director, principal, or other senior leadership role within a legal practice
  • Exposure to establishing, launching, or supporting the development of a legal practice
  • Interest in contributing to the growth and expansion of an internationally connected legal practice
