Join a Crown agency where your financial expertise will support social investment decisions and help strengthen outcomes across Aotearoa’s play, active recreation and sport sector.
This is a senior, hands-on role at the intersection of finance, strategy and public value. You’ll take ownership of portfolio-level financial monitoring and reporting, and help turn partner performance data into clear insights that support confident senior decision-making.
If you’re looking for mahi that goes beyond pure accounting, this is an excellent opportunity to help shape how investment performance is measured, understood and improved — with a clear line of sight to positive impact for communities, participants and the wider sector.
About the role
As Senior Investment/Funds Analyst, you’ll provide robust financial oversight across a community funding portfolio, while helping strengthen investment management, performance monitoring and continuous improvement practices.
With an investment and strategy refresh on the horizon, this role will also support financial modelling and planning for the investment portfolio in the next strategic period.
  • You will: Own the end-to-end financial monitoring and reporting cycle for the investment portfolio, including budgets, forecasts, payments and variance analysis
  • Manage investment performance reporting and insights for senior governance and ministerial audiences, including non-financial performance data that shows whether partners are on track to achieve their agreed outcomes
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to guide investment processes, while also owning continuous improvement and helping design new processes where needed
  • Act as a subject matter expert for financial systems and contribute to system and process improvements
This is a highly visible role requiring strong financial judgement, clear communication and the ability to turn financial and performance information into useful insights.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a Finance role in New Zealand
  • Strong experience with budgets, forecasts, actuals and variance analysis at portfolio or programme level
  • Experience reviewing financial information from external organisations to support investment and funding decisions
  • Advanced MS Excel skills with demonstrated ability to analyse large, complex financial datasets
  • Confidence using financial and planning systems (Adaptive Insights or similar)
  • The ability to communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Familiarity with Power BI is advantageous but not essential
You’ll also bring a proactive mindset, curiosity, and a desire to improve systems, processes and ways of working.
