As the sector evolves - with new technologies, changing operating models and increasingly complex international standards – this organisation is forming a specialised programme team to deliver a major modernisation and improvement of the sector's regulatory rule set.
We’re seeking 2 x experienced Senior Policy Advisors, one with regulatory policy development experience, and one with legislative policy experience and solid knowledge of Cabinet processes, to be part of the programme team from its inception, on 2 year fixed term contracts located in Wellington.
About the role
In these roles you will:
- Lead evidence based regulatory policy advice to support changes to key regulatory rules
- Support the design, review and implementation of new and updated rules, ensuring they are fit for purpose, risk based and aligned with international standards
- Provide clear, strategic policy advice and briefings for senior leaders, central agencies and Ministers
- Collaborate with technical, operational, legal and industry specialists to develop robust, workable regulatory solutions
- Contribute to consultation processes, including developing discussion documents and supporting engagement with sector stakeholders
We’re interested in hearing from you if you have:
- Experience (at Senior Policy Advisor level) in public Policy development in a regulatory policy team, or in a legislative policy setting; and
- Proven experience in providing policy advice and briefings to Ministers and SLT, and a solid understanding of the New Zealand machinery of government
- Strong analytical skills, policy nous, and the ability to interpret complex information and provide well reasoned recommendations
- Excellent written communication skills, able to convey complex issues clearly and succinctly
- The ability to build strong relationships and influence effectively across different stakeholder groups
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support or mentor colleagues
- The right to work in New Zealand
- Term: 2 year fixed term
- Location: Wellington
- Working pattern: Full time; hybrid working (typically 3 days in the office, 2 from home)
- Indicative salary range: $115 – $140K p.a., depending on skills and experience
- Start date: March 2026.
