Meet Arlo

Breed: Golden retriever

Barking from: Pakuranga, Auckland

What's up dog?

Arlo, our golden retriever, had a way of brightening every room he entered often quite literally, as he tended to barrel in with his tail wagging and a toy (or sock) proudly in his mouth. A giant goofball at heart, Arlo didn't just bring joy to our family he had a magnetic presence that drew in everyone around him. Whether it was a neighbour walking by, delivery drivers, or kids at the park, people couldn't help but smile when they saw him coming. He made fast friends with everyone, often before they had a chance to decide whether they were dog people or not. Arlo never quite grasped the concept of personal space if you sat on the floor, he took that as an invitation to sit on you. If you were on the couch, he'd be wedged beside (or on top of) you in seconds. But no one minded his affection was sincere and constant. He wasn't motivated by food or toys, but by human interaction. He lived for eye contact, pats, cuddles, and company. He was the master of the "rolly polly his signature move where he'd flop dramatically onto his back and wiggle for attention, stopping passersby in their tracks with laughter. Whether cheering up a friend who'd had a rough day or charming strangers into spontaneous belly rubs, Arlo had an uncanny ability to lift spirits. He didn't need to do tricks or behave perfectly his presence alone was a comfort. His goofy antics, golden warmth, and unconditional love reminded people to slow down, to laugh more, and to love without hesitation. Arlo was more than a pet; he was a walking, tail-wagging dose of happiness.
