What's up dog?
Ernie visits two wards at Waikato Hospital each week to comfort patients who are in hospital. The patients that are missing their dogs or who like dogs love having him on their beds and talking to him. the doctors and nurses and visitors will also stop to talk to him. Ernie is part of the reading buddies programme in a local primary school. Children that need more confidence with their reading come and read to Ernie, which is non threatening for them. They love giving him a treat at the end, getting a sticker for themselves and sometimes taking him for a little walk around the room. Ernie visits the Waikato University wellbeing hub with a group of other dogs so that students can come and see and pat the dogs and give them treats. The students love it and the dogs do too!
