Meet Rennie

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback

Barking from: Waipu, Whangarei

What's up dog?

Rennie is a st John's pet therapy dog. He regularly visits Ranburn rest home in Waipu. He visits the hospital ward the dementia ward as well as the lounge where residents meet to do crafts and host events. It's wonderful to see residents light up when he enters the room and for some residents it's the only time they speak. Rennie is a calm accomodating dog who loves Pat's cuddles and kisses.. He is very patient and he loves to nuzzle in for more pats which usually makes te recipient giggle and laugh. It opens up conversations about dogs that residents previously knew. Rennie knows when each resident has a birthday and personally delivers that card. It's pure joy 😊 Working in a busy rest home can at times be stressful for staff and Rennie is always there for a destress pat and cuddle. Rennie had to have an emergency operation to remove his spleen at the end of July and being 9 and a senior dog it was very worrying. However he is Making a good recovery and will be back 🙏 to spreading love and joy soon at Ranburn. He let's people pour out love and affection and awakens hidden memories of previous loved pets. He puts a huge smile on people's faces. Many people who have emigrated here and had to leave dogs behind often stop me in the street and ask for a pat . They reminisce about rhodesian ridgebacks owned in a previous life. He gives joy. Lots of it.
