What's up dog?
Living with Long COVID, PTSD, and anxiety for the past five years has been incredibly tough. There have been times when it felt like everything was too much physically, mentally, and emotionally. But Scout, my golden retriever, has been a constant light through all of it. From the moment she came into my life, Scout brought a kind of peace I hadn't felt in a long time. She has this ability to sense when I'm struggling. When my anxiety is high or the exhaustion from Long COVID kicks in, she'll quietly come snuggle in beside me, rest her head on my lap, or nudge me with her nose as if to say "I've got you. It's comforting in a way that words can't explain! Scout has helped me build better daily habits too. Even on my worst days, she still needs walks, food, and play and that gentle responsibility keeps me moving. Getting outside for a short walk or just sitting with her helps calm my mind. Her goofy personality and constant tail wags have made me laugh more than I thought I could. More than anything, Scout gives me a sense of purpose. She doesn't care if I'm having a bad day or if I need to rest more than usual, she just stays close, offering love without asking for much in return. Scout has made a huge difference in my life. With her around, things feel a little more manageable, and life feels a little easier.

We believe no dog should be left behind.
Every dog entered into the competition is automatically in the running for the 2025 People’s Choice Award — and the winner will be decided by you, the public.
This year, we’re giving the aroha back to our communities.
Each year, our campaign is supported by a number of incredible charities across Aotearoa that work tirelessly to improve the lives of dogs and people alike. In 2025, we’re shining a spotlight on these organisations and the vital mahi they do.
