What's up dog?
Since 2020, Speights my loyal Australian Shepherd has been more than just a pet. She's been my coworker, my mental health coach, my daily dose of joy, and the heartbeat of my home office. Through lockdowns, long hours, and never-ending Teams calls, Speights has never missed a shift. She parks herself loyally at my feet, occasionally pops her head into meetings (to the delight of colleagues), and brings a much-needed sense of calm and connection to every workday. Her presence reminds me to pause, breathe, and take a break. Our daily lunchtime walks have become a non-negotiable part of my routine, helping me clear my head, stay active, and come back refreshed.
More than once, Speights has lifted my spirits during tough days with nothing more than a gentle nudge or a goofy grin. But it's not just me she's impacted Speights has charmed my entire team. So much so that several colleagues have since added dogs to their own home offices. She's shown us all how pets can bring balance, boost morale, and make remote work more human. Speights is more than just my dog she's a four-legged wellness officer, a constant companion, and my very best friend. She's proof that dogs truly make all the difference. What makes Speights different from other office dogs is the journey she's been on and the unwavering loyalty she's shown along the way.
She's a true globetrotter born in Canada, now living in New Zealand and made the international move right alongside me. Through every transition, job, and timezone change, she's been a constant presence at my side. That journey has shaped her into a uniquely resilient and intuitive companion. She's unfazed by the wild weather of Canterbury thanks to her Canadian winter roots, and no morning is too cold for our daily walks. As a working breed, she thrives on routine and purpose she doesn't just keep me company, she helps me work. Speights can sense when I'm stressed or having a rough day and instinctively knows how to respond whether it's resting her head on my lap, nudging me for a break, or simply being there in quiet solidarity. She's more than a pet she's a loyal partner, a mental health anchor, and a well-travelled soul who brings depth and calm to every workday.
