Goal Setting for 2019

With Christmas being around the corner, I usually like to take a step back and evaluate the year that has passed as well as set some goals for the New Year. I am a visual person, so I normally like to do a vision board. I feel like a kid again with glue, markers, and pictures. It most definitely brings out my inner child. I split my board into the 4 main areas of my life which are Health, Wealth, Personal and Professional. When setting these goals, I am realistic and like to break it down into smaller goals to ultimately reach my main goal. I like to do an annual vision board and then a quarterly vision board. Here are some tips I use when setting goals.

Try and do one activity a quarter to improve your overall health. For example, set a goal to do a 5km run and start training towards that. Start with cutting out sugar, avoiding carbs, drink a little less. It is all about conscious decision making.

Try to invest in the future and see what your retirement will look like. Try and save a little more towards that. Invest or buy property. Try and set up a new budget and stick to it. I know it is easier said than done but try.

Spend more time with your loved ones. For example, we implemented a family game night once a month, so try and have one big family outing once a month and eat at the dinner table every evening and talk about the highs and lows of the day. Start a new family tradition or personal tradition.

If you are in a sales environment your goals can be to reach a specific target or incentive. When not in a sales environment, you can try and improve your skills, do a course, take on one additional task. You never can be too complacent in the working environment. Always try to grow and learn as much as you can. Work for that promotion, or go and find your dream job.

And of course, reward yourself after you have reached your goals. The sense of achievement is a reward.
