Senior Associate / Special Counsel - Property (6+ PAE)

The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate (or Special Counsel-level) Property Lawyer to join the property team on a full-time, permanent basis. Initially appointed as a maternity leave replacement, this position is intended to transition into a long-term permanent role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a range of high-value and complex commercial and residential transactions, from due diligence to settlement.
- Drafting and negotiating retail, commercial, and industrial leases, including renewals and variations.
- Advising on property development projects, including acquisitions, subdivisions, planning/zoning, and off-the-plan contracts.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients in sectors such as childcare, retail, development, and hospitality.
- Supervising junior team members and contributing to internal knowledge sharing.
- Assisting with business development and fostering strong client/referrer relationships.
- Ensuring compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
To be considered for this position, candidates should ideally have:
- Minimum 6yrs PAE in property law, with experience in both commercial and residential matters.
- Deep technical knowledge in property transactions, leasing, and development.
- A NSW practising certificate in good standing.
- The ability to run matters autonomously, advise directly to clients, and contribute at a senior level.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a commercial mindset.
- A collaborative, proactive approach with the ability to mentor junior lawyers.
- Experience in the childcare, retail, or development sectors.
- Exposure to strata law, such as by-law drafting.
- Experience advising on building contracts.
- A portable client base or network of referrers.
