About the role
We are seeking a Senior Communications Officer to lead and deliver high-level communications and community engagement for a transformative transport infrastructure initiative. Based in beautiful Buderim, this three-year role offers the chance to work at the heart of a high-profile project that matters – one that requires not only strong technical skills, but also a genuine ability to build relationships and navigate complex stakeholder landscapes.
Duties will include:
- Developing and executing strategic communication plans that align with project milestones and public expectations
- Leading community engagement initiatives that inform, consult and collaborate with local residents and key interest groups
- Crafting compelling, audience-focused messaging across a range of platforms including media releases, newsletters, digital and social media
- Coordinating with government agencies, contractors and project teams to ensure timely, consistent and accurate information sharing
- Preparing speeches, briefing notes and presentation materials for senior leaders and stakeholders
- Monitoring public sentiment, media coverage and industry trends to inform responsive, data-driven communication strategies
- Managing crisis communication and issues management with confidence, discretion and integrity
- Advising senior leaders on strategic communication and community engagement matters
- Mentoring and supporting a team culture that values collaboration, innovation and high performance
- Vast experience in communications and community engagement, ideally within infrastructure, construction, or government
- Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills across diverse formats and channels
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a talent for navigating complex issues
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities
- A strong understanding of engagement best practices and stakeholder relationship management
- A genuine commitment to building trust and transparency with the community
- IAP2 Certificate (or willingness to complete independently)
- Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, PR, marketing or journalism
- Current driver's licence
- Familiarity with Infrastructure Sustainability frameworks is an advantage
